Autumn is one of my favourite seasons in which to paint the landscape. Like spring, the fall season here on the west coast is colourful and full of energy. Leaves are changing, storms are brewing and the landscape is busily preparing for a winter nap.
I painted this little miniature several years ago, featuring some old train tracks running through the small town of Chemainus on Vancouver Island, still a lovely place to visit.
Here is another little piece from my summer series, titled: “When the Tide Rolls In” (1.75 x 4.25 inches small). This is a view from along the Wickaninnish beach area on the west coast of Vancouver Island.
Another miniature painting from the northwest coastal area on Vancouver Island, titled “Summer Shore” (1.75 x 4.25 inches small). One of the things I love best about the west coast is how in the course of one day, the water can change from steel gray to sky blue, and everything in between.

This little painting titled “Shack Island” (a tiny 2 x 4.5 inches) is a scene from the Pipers Lagoon area in Nanaimo BC. It’s a lovely spot with walking trails, a large lagoon and beach area. When the tide is out, you can sometimes walk out to Shack Island and see the old cabins there.

These tiny, circular miniature paintings are some of the smallest acrylic paintings I create. The size and format is a nice change from the slightly larger rectangles I usually paint. Size here, being relative of course!
Vignette I (1.5 x 1.5 inches)
Vignette II (1.5 x 1.5 inches)
Vignette III (1.5 x 1.5 inches)
Vignette IV (1.5 x 1.5 inches)
These little paintings will be on display and available for purchase at the upcoming 10th Anniversary show at Gallery 8 on Salt Spring Island. The show opens April 19th!
This miniature painting was inspired by a recent trip to the beautiful west coast of Vancouver Island, where the site and sound of the waves along the beach were absolutely wonderful.
Titled “West Coast Waves”, this mini painting measures 1.75 x 5.25 inches in size and is painted in acrylic on paper board.
Here’s a new miniature painting of some local train tracks disappearing into some lovely west coast autumn colour! This little painting is worked in acrylic on paper board.
It’s a birthday celebration at Gallery 8 on Salt Spring Island! These two new miniature paintings are at Gallery 8 as part of their 9th anniversary show. A little taste of Canadiana and thoughts of summer days to come…

I find few things lovelier than a leisurely stroll through a beautiful park, on a very fine spring day. Largely, I suspect, because I don’t have to battle allergies that accompany spring’s grand arrival.
This painting depicts springtime in Beacon Hill Park, Victoria BC.

Here is a look at the same painting with rough edges and a quarter to show scale:
