Spring was in the air when I painted this mini and I often felt like I was gardening while adding the tiny flowers; pulling out the lovely reds and pinks to add to my normally green/blue palette. The little figure seated on the bench was added last.
Initial wash and light pencil sketch.
Blocking in a few colours, keeping the paint thin.
More washes and shaping up the composition.
Adding in a few landmarks and starting some detail.
Sectioning off larger areas and adding more detail to foliage.
Adding distant details.
“Planting” flowers and finishing background.
Developing foreground and heaps of detail.
Final tweaking of lights, darks, and yes…more details!
