Another miniature painting from the northwest coastal area on Vancouver Island, titled “Summer Shore” (1.75 x 4.25 inches small). One of the things I love best about the west coast is how in the course of one day, the water can change from steel gray to sky blue, and everything in between.
“Summer Shore” (measures a tiny 1.75 x 4.25 inches) Acrylic on board.
This little painting titled “Shack Island” (a tiny 2 x 4.5 inches) is a scene from the Pipers Lagoon area in Nanaimo BC. It’s a lovely spot with walking trails, a large lagoon and beach area. When the tide is out, you can sometimes walk out to Shack Island and see the old cabins there.

These tiny, circular miniature paintings are some of the smallest acrylic paintings I create. The size and format is a nice change from the slightly larger rectangles I usually paint. Size here, being relative of course!
Vignette I (1.5 x 1.5 inches)
Vignette II (1.5 x 1.5 inches)
Vignette III (1.5 x 1.5 inches)
Vignette IV (1.5 x 1.5 inches)
These little paintings will be on display and available for purchase at the upcoming 10th Anniversary show at Gallery 8 on Salt Spring Island. The show opens April 19th!
Here are two new minis of the mid island area: Nanaimo River and the train tracks near Transfer beach in Ladysmith, both dressed in autumn colours. I was fortunate to be on Vancouver Island on a gorgeous fall day and visited these beautiful places with camera on hand and leaves still on the trees! It’s great to paint these little guys with all that lovely colour.

Tiny acrylic painting: Afternoon at the Estuary (1.5 x 6 inches small)
This miniature painting is of the beautiful estuary near Parksville BC, where the Englishman River meets the sea. Many birds, creatures and a variety of grasses and plants thrive here. A wonderful place to walk through.
The last tiny details have been added, the antique frames selected and the paintbrushes finally set down…and I’m so very happy to be finished!!!
“Pieces of 8” is the title of my latest miniature painting project, featuring eight tiny acrylic landscapes, for the “Symbolically 8 Exhibition” at Gallery 8 on Salt Spring Island. The show is running now through to May 8th.
Gallery 8’s upcoming anniversary show “Symbolically 8 Exhibition”, on Salt Spring Island, opens on Friday April 14 at 5pm-8pm. This show features a wonderful collection of artworks by gallery artists including paintings, sculpture and more.
I’ve been working on 8 new minis for this show and I will be at there, painting in miniature, on Saturday April 15th from 11am-2pm!
Spring is almost here! And so is the 8th anniversary show at Gallery 8, located on Salt Spring Island, in mid April. I’m working on several new miniatures for this show and will be doing a demonstration in the gallery during the opening weekend. So if you’d like to see the show, or chat with me and try your hand at painting in miniature, stop by for a visit. Dates and details to come, so please check back. 🙂
This miniature painting was inspired by the beautiful winter colours of the Sunshine Coast in December. It was such a chilly day, but a great day for the beach nonetheless!
“Winter Waves” (a tiny 1.5 x 4 inches), available at RendezVous Gallery in Vancouver, BC.
