In this extremely challenging time, I’m deeply grateful more than ever to lose myself in a beautiful landscape, if only with my paintbrush for the time being. Over the last twenty years I have taken thousands of photos, always hoping for a few gems, to use as reference for my miniature paintings. And with the creation of each painting, I can again visit the place where I was first inspired to pause and enjoy the beauty of the landscape.
I hope that sharing these paintings will offer some little bit of joy to others as well, even if just a brief respite from the difficulties we are facing.
This little mini titled: “Shack Island” (2 x 4.5 inches), will be a part of the third annual miniature art show presented by Excellent Frameworks located in Duncan BC. The show opens this Saturday, Nov. 30th, from 12pm – 3pm, and features a wonderful collection of tiny artworks, so please stop by if you are in the area and see these little gems!
This miniature painting is of Shack Island, located near Pipers Lagoon Park in Nanaimo BC. The park is terrific with pathways, beach and a beautiful lagoon. Shack Island is a lovely spot to walk out to when the tide permits.

For those who love miniature art, here is a link to the MPSGS 2019 International Exhibit of miniature art in many of it’s delightful forms. Here you will find traditional miniature paintings, sculpture, mixed media, graphic art and many more works of miniature art.
The opening reception will be held Sunday, November 17th from 2-4pm at The Mansion at Strathmore in North Bethesda, Maryland. A very big thank you to everyone who worked to put this amazing show together!
This year I am honoured to have received the Cathie P. Scott Memorial Award for Best in Realism for the miniature painting titled: “Summer Spray”, a scene from my beloved west coast here on Vancouver Island.
For those in the Vancouver area who may be interested, I will be giving a demonstration of miniature painting on Wednesday, April 24 at The Outlet, at Leigh Square Community Arts Village, in Port Coquitlam.
A big thank you to the Art Focus Artists Association for hosting the event, which is free to the public and runs from 7pm – 9pm. See you there!
These tiny, circular miniature paintings are some of the smallest acrylic paintings I create. The size and format is a nice change from the slightly larger rectangles I usually paint. Size here, being relative of course!
These little paintings will be on display and available for purchase at the upcoming 10th Anniversary show at Gallery 8 on Salt Spring Island. The show opens April 19th!
On Saturday, April 21st of this month, I will be setting up a mini studio and doing a demo on painting in miniature at Excellent Frameworks in Duncan BC.
The demo will take place in the gallery from 1pm – 4pm and is open to everyone.

The show is presented by the Miniature Painters, Sculptors & Gravers Society of Washington, DC, and the exhibition runs from November 19 – January 6th at The Mansion of Strathmore in North Bethesda, MD.
I am very honoured to have received a First Place for Landscape award for my mini painting titled “Morning Tide”. This painting was inspired by a morning visit to the beach near Tofino BC, another glorious place to see along the beautiful west coast!
