I had such a good time on Friday evening at Gallery 8 on Salt Spring Island, enjoying great company and a fantastic collection of beautiful art rendered on a small scale. Paintings, sculpture, pottery and so much more can be seen over the next several weeks during the Christmas Exhibition of Small Works. I am delighted to be a part of this show, which runs from Friday November 25th to January 3rd, and hope you will stop by to see it if you are in the area!

Honey I Shrunk The Art!
Looking forward to participating in the annual “Honey I Shrunk The Art” small works show at Matzke Fine Art Gallery on Camano Island. The opening party and potluck is Nov 19 and the show continues to January 15!
Pumpkin Time!
For me, chilly October days in the Pacific Northwest means pumpkin time is here! Bring out the pumpkin pie, pumpkin drinks and pumpkin carving. I love Jack-O-Lantern season, marking the last vestiges of autumn and a time of eerie transformation as the landscape sheds it’s former glory and prepares for a well deserved winter rest.

83 Years of Miniature Art
A few months ago I painted two tiny miniatures and put them in antique frames, then sent them off to the international miniature show presented by the MPSGS in Maryland, USA. I’m so pleased to share that they were accepted into the show and one of them was awarded Best In Realism. Participating in this historical show is truly an honour.

“It’s a Miniature World” art show opens this week in Lantzville
The Lantzville Art Gallery‘s new show “It’s a Miniature World” opens this week! The show will feature the artworks of several Vancouver Island artists, as well as 10 new miniature paintings I’ve just completed with a focus on local island landscape.

Autumn is here!

For me, autumn comes comes with crisp morning air, golden afternoons and cozy evenings. And not infrequently, if you live on the west coast, a generous downpour of rain. It’s my favourite time of year, puddles and all, and my gumboots and camera are never far from hand.
Unexpected inspiration for the above painting came as I was on my way to somewhere else and I now stop to visit this little marshland whenever I pass by. Onward to new autumn adventures!
Art and Afternoon Tea!
If you enjoy fine artwork, miniature paintings and tea, then please join me for It’s a Miniature World Afternoon Tea on Sunday, October 16th, presented by the Lantzville Art Gallery and neighboring Riso Restaurant and Bakery.
The art gallery is lovely, the restaurant divine (I’ve already sampled their delicious goodies) the event will make for a pleasant afternoon. You may wish to bring a magnifying glass as well, to better see the miniature paintings which measure only a few inches in size.
The following Exhibition “It’s a Miniature World” will be on display at the Lantzville Art Gallery from October 19th – November 20th, located in Lantzville just minutes north of Nanaimo BC. The show will feature several of my miniature landscape paintings and a wonderful selection of fine artworks by gallery artists.
Tickets for the event are $55.00 each and can be purchased at the Lantzville Art Gallery.
Old meets new!
I came across these little Italian frames in an antique store recently and painted two tiny miniatures to fit them. The minis are painted on hardboard and displayed without glass, which I think suits the time-worn look of the these lovely little frames. Now to find more little gems! “Country Days I & II” acrylic on hardboard. Both minis are 1.5 x 2 inches small.

The Ruined Keep – new miniature painting
“The Ruined Keep” (a tiny 5.25 x 1.75 inches small). I discovered this old ruin (Morton Castle), slumbering peacefully along a back road in Scotland. The view was stunning and this silent ruin was great to walk through, a window into a different time. And yes, those are tiny sheep dotting the distant pasture.
