On Saturday, April 21st of this month, I will be setting up a mini studio and doing a demo on painting in miniature at Excellent Frameworks in Duncan BC.
The demo will take place in the gallery from 1pm – 4pm and is open to everyone.
I will be working on a painting, answering questions and offering folks a chance to try their hand at a wee bit of mini painting. If you are interested in miniature art, and are in the area, please stop by and say hello!
It’s a chilly winter morning at the studio today! Slow drive in but a pretty winter view all around. The chickadees are busy in the hedgerow outside my window and flitting about the Christmas lights. These sweet little guys are just the inspiration I need today. Maybe a new winter painting… 🙂
Looking forward to tonight! It’s the opening reception for the Annual Small Works show at Gallery 8 on Salt Spring Island, from 5-8pm. The show continues through December and features many small and delightful artworks! Here are the two tiniest minis that I am contributing to the show at 2″x1.5″ each:
And these two slightly larger works at 2″x3″ and 3″x2″ respectively:
Here are two new minis of the mid island area: Nanaimo River and the train tracks near Transfer beach in Ladysmith, both dressed in autumn colours. I was fortunate to be on Vancouver Island on a gorgeous fall day and visited these beautiful places with camera on hand and leaves still on the trees! It’s great to paint these little guys with all that lovely colour.

The show is presented by the Miniature Painters, Sculptors & Gravers Society of Washington, DC, and the exhibition runs from November 19 – January 6th at The Mansion of Strathmore in North Bethesda, MD.
I am very honoured to have received a First Place for Landscape award for my mini painting titled “Morning Tide”. This painting was inspired by a morning visit to the beach near Tofino BC, another glorious place to see along the beautiful west coast!
The last tiny details have been added, the antique frames selected and the paintbrushes finally set down…and I’m so very happy to be finished!!!
“Pieces of 8” is the title of my latest miniature painting project, featuring eight tiny acrylic landscapes, for the “Symbolically 8 Exhibition” at Gallery 8 on Salt Spring Island. The show is running now through to May 8th.
