This mini painting was inspired by a morning walk along the beach near Tofino, on Vancouver Island. The calm water and soaring gulls made for a lovely start to the day. June is a particularly nice time to visit the area. 🙂
This miniature painting is of the beautiful estuary near Parksville BC, where the Englishman River meets the sea. Many birds, creatures and a variety of grasses and plants thrive here. A wonderful place to walk through.
New miniature painting: “Gulls Along the Shore” (1.5 x 4 inches small). This little painting was inspired by a trip to Gabriola Island, near Nanaimo BC, and a walk along the lovely stony shores there.
Here is the first mini in a new series I’ve started, titled “West Coast Moments”. This series features landscape scenes from our beautiful west coast, but with a focus on unusual composition and/or lighting as I experienced it while on location. It makes for a nice creative challenge!

“Pieces of 8” is the title of my latest miniature painting project, featuring eight tiny acrylic landscapes, for the “Symbolically 8 Exhibition” at Gallery 8 on Salt Spring Island. The show is running now through to May 8th.

Spring is almost here! And so is the 8th anniversary show at Gallery 8, located on Salt Spring Island, in mid April. Here is my newest miniature painting fresh off the drawing table: “Old Red”. This piece was inspired by the hot, hazy days of late summer in the country. I love finding these gentle giants, slumbering and sagging with character, scattered across the countryside.
