The last tiny details have been added, the antique frames selected and the paintbrushes finally set down…and I’m so very happy to be finished!!!
“Pieces of 8” is the title of my latest miniature painting project, featuring eight tiny acrylic landscapes, for the “Symbolically 8 Exhibition” at Gallery 8 on Salt Spring Island. The show is running now through to May 8th.
Gallery 8’s upcoming anniversary show “Symbolically 8 Exhibition”, on Salt Spring Island, opens on Friday April 14 at 5pm-8pm. This show features a wonderful collection of artworks by gallery artists including paintings, sculpture and more.
I’ve been working on 8 new minis for this show and I will be at there, painting in miniature, on Saturday April 15th from 11am-2pm!
Spring is almost here! And so is the 8th anniversary show at Gallery 8, located on Salt Spring Island, in mid April. I’m working on several new miniatures for this show and will be doing a demonstration in the gallery during the opening weekend. So if you’d like to see the show, or chat with me and try your hand at painting in miniature, stop by for a visit. Dates and details to come, so please check back. 🙂
Here is my newest miniature painting fresh off the drawing table: “Old Red”. This piece was inspired by the hot, hazy days of late summer in the country. I love finding these gentle giants, slumbering and sagging with character, scattered across the countryside.
This miniature painting was inspired by the beautiful winter colours of the Sunshine Coast in December. It was such a chilly day, but a great day for the beach nonetheless!
“Winter Waves” (a tiny 1.5 x 4 inches), available at RendezVous Gallery in Vancouver, BC.
I painted this little miniature with memories of a lovely summer day spent on the beach near Tofino, BC. The dense green trees, sparkling water and warm golden sunshine made for a perfect west coast moment.
This little painting is available for purchase at RendezVous Art Gallery in Vancouver, BC.
I may be slogging through the winter slush but I’m dreaming of springtime in beautiful Victoria, BC. These two miniature paintings are available at Peninsula Gallery in Sidney, BC.
The View from Holland Point (1.5 x 6 inches small)
Happy New Year and all good things for 2017! Chilly January days mean hunkering down in the studio and exploring new ideas and planning for the year to come. The gray rain and muted landscape are beautiful for winter photo shoots, but mainly they serve an excuse to drink copious amounts of tea and be cozy in the studio.
I recently painted this little miniature as a nice reminder of warmer days and the sunshine colours of summer in BC.
This new mini “Winter Water” (4 x 1.5 inches small) was inspired by a frosty walk along the river in Maple Ridge BC. Painting winter scenes provides an interesting challenge and a nice change in palette, incorporating a surprising amount of Alizarin Crimson. This little painting is at Lantzville Art Gallery near Nanaimo, as part of their holiday show “I believe in Angels”.
I had such a good time on Friday evening at Gallery 8 on Salt Spring Island, enjoying great company and a fantastic collection of beautiful art rendered on a small scale. Paintings, sculpture, pottery and so much more can be seen over the next several weeks during the Christmas Exhibition of Small Works. I am delighted to be a part of this show, which runs from Friday November 25th to January 3rd, and hope you will stop by to see it if you are in the area!
