A New Series of Miniatures!

Hi folks! I’m super excited to share a new group of 10 miniature paintings featuring some of the landscapes I love best here on beautiful Vancouver Island. This body of work will be featured at Peninsula Gallery in Sidney BC, beginning November 1st. Here’s a sneak peak: “Winter Day” (a tiny 4 x 2.25 inches), acrylic on artboard.

I Love the island beaches in wintertime and this little fellow was great company. 😊

My miniature paintings can be purchased from Peninsula Gallery in Sidney BC, Canada and here is a link to the gallery: Peninsula Gallery

From 2D to 3D and back again… Thank you Tangible Day!

And now for something completely different…

I’d like to introduce you to Blue! A tiny dragon wreaking havoc in my studio and the result of my first creative cross-over into miniature 3D painting and part of a project I’ve been working on recently.

Having painted miniature 2D for the last 22 years, it has been so much fun crossing over into the 3D miniature world a wee bit and learning about the fine art of 3D painting. Mainly, I’ve learned that it’s much harder to do than it looks! But very much worth the effort and hope I’ll never be too old to learn something new. 😊

I’m so pleased to share this article I’ve written for Tangible Day, a fantastic blog site for miniature painters and hobbyists alike! I’m super grateful for the opportunity to do this so please check out the site as it has so much info available for those in love with the miniature realm.

The tinier the bird, the bigger the challenge!

Newest mini: “Bird on a Fence” (2.25 x 3.5 inches), acrylic on paperboard. I love painting wood and texture and this old barn was a lot of fun. The tiny bird on the fencepost was less fun and a bit more tricky!

When painting a bird this small (just a few millimeters), the goal is really to capture the essence and presence with just a few brush strokes as the extremely small area does not allow for much reworking, without distorting the image. Painting these little details can be trying sometimes but they always present a good challenge.

This little painting is available at Excellent Frameworks in Duncan BC.
